The NFL Players Association filed a lawsuit Thursday to block five of the six player suspensions for violating the league's anti-doping policy. The suit filed in federal court here is on behalf of Kevin Williams and Pat Williams of the Minnesota Vikings, and Charles Grant, Deuce McAllister and Will Smith of the New Orleans Saints.

The Saints need to win their final four games to have any kind of a shot at being in the postseason picture in the extremely competitive NFC.
But they'll go for that four-game streak without two of their veteran leaders on the field and in the locker room—running back Deuce McAllister and defensive end Will Smith.
As expected, McAllister, Smith and defensive end Charles Grant, who is already on injured reserve with a torn triceps muscle, were suspended four games each by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances.
They will miss the rest of the regular season, which starts with Sunday's crucial game against the Atlanta Falcons in the Superdome.

Scott Fujita worried aloud that his opinion about the suspensions of New Orleans Saints teammates Deuce McAllister and Will Smith could get him fined by the NFL. The linebacker couldn't hold his tongue for long, however. "I don't know how much of an opinion we're even allowed to have anymore when it comes to NFL issues, but obviously I completely disagree with it.

Unless the courts intervene, the Minnesota Vikings will have to make their stretch run at the NFC North title without their two stalwart defensive tackles. Kevin and Pat Williams, who have anchored a Minnesota defense ranked second in the NFL against the run, were among six players suspended by the league on Tuesday for violating the league's anti-doping policy.

The Saints felt good when they got the ball back with just under four minutes to play in Sunday's crucial game against the Buccaneers.
Trying to extend a two-game winning streak on the road against Tampa Bay—the NFC South co-leader—and possibly making a statement for the final four games, the Saints simply needed to get in position for a shot at a go-ahead field goal.
But it wasn't to be, as they soon found out. Two interceptions in their own territory and a Bucs field goal later, the Saints (6-6) were marching home with a 23-20 loss—which all but ended their playoff hopes.
Center Jonathan Goodwin was one of the players who were pretty confident when the Saints offense ran onto the field in a 20-20 game with 3:50 to play in Raymond James...

Although two victories in three games qualify as a big surge for the San Francisco 49ers, Shaun Hill and Mike Singletary know they shouldn't get comfortable in their new jobs any time soon. The quarterback and his interim coach realize they're both far from certain to return to the 49ers (4-8) next season, even after revitalizing a team that dropped seven of its first nine games this fall during...
