Report: Browns RB Montario Hardesty out for the year (SportingNews.com)

Cleveland Browns rookie running back Montario Hardesty has a torn ACL and likely will miss the entire 2010 season, ESPN reports. Hardesty injured his left knee in the second quarter of Thursday night’s game against the Chicago Bears. He’ll undergo surgery to repair the ligament and will be in recovery for about nine months, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I hurt my knee making a cut. I really don't know what it is. I can't say it's not frustrating," Hardesty said following the game.

Knee injury ends season for Browns rookie Hardesty (AP)

The Browns couldn't wait to see what rookie running back Montario Hardesty could do on the field. He won't be out there again this season. Hardesty tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in his NFL debut on Thursday night and will be out for the year, a cruel twist for the second-round pick, whose career has been slowed by serious knee injuries.

Little equality in NFL schedule (AP)

NFL coaches consistently spout the party line that every game is dangerous, no opponent is a pushover, on any given Sunday, etc. Well, these days it's hard to deny there are chunks of teams' 16-game schedule that simply are hellacious. Some clubs face big obstacles from the start of this season.

Bears Team Report (Yahoo! Sports)

Despite a preseason that had him running for his life or ducking for cover far too often, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler can't wait for the regular season to begin.

That might seem odd, considering the Bears scored just 17 points in the five quarters that Cutler had played going into the final preseason game, during which he was sacked 10 times, threw two interceptions and compiled a passer rating of 62.4.

Questions about the reworked offensive line's ability to protect Cutler have not been answered to anyone's satisfaction, although the quarterback and offensive coordinator Mike Martz both insist there has been improvement. The other huge question was how quickly the offense would fully grasp Martz's thick playbook.

Leftwich, Hardesty injured in preseason finales (AP)

First, no Ben Roethlisberger. Now, maybe no Byron Leftwich for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Dennis Dixon, you're up next. Leftwich, expected to be the fill-in starter for the suspended Roethlisberger at quarterback for the Steelers, sprained his left knee in the second quarter as Pittsburgh (3-1) beat the starter-less Carolina Panthers 19-3 in the preseason finale Thursday night.

Reason for concerns: NFC North (SportingNews.com)

A capsule look at reasons for concern among teams in the NFC North: Chicago Bears 1. Offensive line. Poor line play could prevent coordinator Mike Martz's offense from taking hold. QB Jay Cutler has been sacked 10 times, leading to only 14 first-team points in 16 possessions. Breakdowns have come largely at both tackle spots, but the Bears must rely on inexperienced Chris Williams and Frank Omiyale because backup Kevin Shaffer offers only a short-term replacement possibility.

Preseason checkdown: Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy perfect in finales (SportingNews.com)

The final night of exhibition games was replete with the NFL's notable rookie quarterbacks: Sam Bradford, St. Louis Rams It will be surprising if the Rams don't start the season with the first overall pick as their starting quarterback. Bradford strengthened his case to be the No. 1 in Week 1 with another strong performance at home, going 6-for-6 on a touchdown drive in his only series against the Baltimore Ravens. Colt McCoy, Cleveland Browns Perhaps buoyed by assurances he would make the Browns' 53-man roster, McCoy shook off three shaky stints...

NFL Preseason Capsules (AP)

With the controversy swirling ahead of him on the Arizona quarterback depth chart, Max Hall wrapped up his preseason with a big night. The undrafted rookie from BYU completed 7 of 9 passes for 126 yards and scored on a 6-yard run in the Cardinals' 20-10 victory Thursday night over Washington. Hall directed Arizona to two TDs and a field goal in his three possessions.
